Carbon Reduction plan
Introduction
This Carbon Reduction Plan outlines Minds Matter Clinic’s commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The plan establishes a baseline year, identifies key measures for reducing emissions, and includes a framework for reporting progress by the end of July 2025.
Organisational Commitment
MMC commits to reducing emissions in a structured manner, targeting significant reductions by 2030, 2040, and ultimately achieving net zero by 2050. This commitment is approved at the director level and integrated into our operational strategy.
Baseline Year and Admissions
- Baseline Year: 2035
- Total Admissions (2023): [160]
This baseline will allow us to measure our progress accurately against our emission reduction targets.
Reporting Framework
The first report on our progress toward carbon reduction will be prepared by the end of July 2025, detailing:
Scope 1
- Direct emission from clinic facilities, such as noise/light pollution, lightbulbs and electric plugs.
Scope 2
- Purchased Energy, such as electricity steam and gas.
Scope 3 NHS Contract Criteria
- upstream transportation and distribution
- waste generated in operations.
- business travel
- employee commuting; and
- downstream transportation and distribution.

Environmental Management Measures
To achieve our emissions reduction goals, the following measures will be implemented:
- Digital Communication (Scope 3):
- Email Over Postage: Transition to electronic communications for all internal and external correspondence to significantly reduce paper use and postal emissions.
- Digital Marketing: Utilise online platforms for outreach instead of printed materials.
- Digital Assessments (Scope 3):
- Virtual Services: Expand virtual/remote options to reduce the need for in-person visits, thereby decreasing travel-related emissions.
- Online Assessment Tools: Implement digital tools for patient assessments to minimize travel and streamline processes.
- Energy Efficiency (Scope 1):
- Conduct an energy audit to identify areas for improvement.
- Implement energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems in our clinic.
- Waste Reduction (Scope 1):
- Establish a recycling program for paper, plastics, and electronics.
- Implement a digital record-keeping system to reduce paper use.
- Sustainable Procurement (Scope 2):
- Source supplies and materials from environmentally responsible vendors.
- Prioritize sustainable office equipment and furniture.
- Staff Training and Engagement (Scope 3):
- Train staff on sustainability practices and the importance of reducing carbon footprints.
- Encourage suggestions from staff on additional carbon reduction strategies.
Monitoring and Review
Progress will be monitored every 6 months, with a full review conducted annually. Key performance indicators (KPIs) will include:
- Reduction in paper usage
- Reduction in travel emissions
- Energy consumption levels
Conclusion
This Carbon Reduction Plan demonstrates Minds Matter Clinic’s commitment to environmental sustainability and public health. By implementing these measures, we will not only contribute to global efforts to combat climate change but also enhance our clinic’s operational efficiency and patient care.
